Laser Show Number 10. “Constant And Never Ending Improvement.”

Today’s show is about a lesson I learned years ago from Tony Robbins.  “Constant And Never Ending Improvement or CANEI.”  In today’s show Josh Sykes and I go over our strategy and planning as we prepare for our Rim to Rim to Rim at the Grand Canyon on September 1, 2017.  Because of the serious nature of this endeavor, Josh and I have implemented a very strategic preparation program.  The key has been Constant And Never Ending Improvement.  We have not had time to wait for things to happen.  Because of the compressed schedule we have chosen and the element of going at night, we had to implement new strategies into our training.  In this episode, we first describe in good detail how we trained for the adventure, from the climbing and descending work, strength training, heat training and general aerobic conditioning.  Because Josh has such a stronger aerobic base and has agreed to slow down to my pace it will allow him to enjoy the Canyon and have a more magical experience.  Plus, he has put in an incredible aerobic base with multiple 100-mile weeks in Fort Collins and has done more than ample heat training with the dry sauna.  He is more than ready.  Combined with his wonderful spirit, it makes for a memorable and safe adventure!  We also spend time discussing our nutrition plans and how I just found out that he is fat adapted as well, which is great stuff!  The third element of the show is discussing how we are going move through the Canyon.  From gently moving down South Kaibab, walking the Box, Power hiking the North Rim and jogging back down the North Rim with an easy walk/Jog of the Box and finish as best we can on Bright Angel.  The key is to be done before noon on Saturday September 2nd.  This strategy was solidified by the article written by Nick Coury and his 2017 Hardrock success!  Lastly, we discussed our schedule of starting sometime between 4-5pm Friday evening and finishing Saturday morning before noon.  But we are aware that the Canyon will and can dictate pace.  We must follow our plan hoping that our training did its job and keep Ego from creating problems.  Respect for the Canyon is a must! We have also used a wonderful site called Hit The Trail  Which provides very valuable information on all things with the Grand Canyon!

The Key Men as I’ve said before, to creating these types of Adventures is planning, preparation and follow through.  Josh and I both believe in CANEI!  We haven’t waited around.  We have done what’s necessary to prepare and keep improving our fitness and mindset.  Knowing that nothing is going to be perfect.  We just must be better and respond in a responsible way to whatever happens!
